Hi! I'm Dr. Heather Sassman and I'm so glad you're here! Trusting someone to work with your family can be scary so here's a little about me - I graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with my Ph.D. in School Psychology. I spent four years there working in various schools conducting evaluations, writing IEP goals, creating and implementing Behavior Intervention Plans, and supporting parents and teachers. I then moved to Baltimore, Maryland for my predoctoral and postdoctoral training at Kennedy Krieger Institute/Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. While there, I spent time working in the Pediatric Feeding Disorders Program and the Neurobehavioral Outpatient Unit. I instantly fell in love with these kiddos and their families. I loved my time in the schools, but knew my calling was more clinical. During this time, I also earned my BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst). My passion for Pediatric Feeding Disorders grew and I accepted a staff psychologist position in their program where I stayed for about 3 years. I got married, started a family of my own, and then the pandemic hit. Much like everyone else, the pandemic (and starting a family) changed my priorities. I decided it was time to come home and accepted a Psychologist position at Mercy Kids Autism Center conducing autism evaluations and continuing my passion of supporting families and children with challenging mealtime behaviors and routines. I remained at Mercy Kids for over 3 years and decided it was time to once again, re-evaluate my priorities and open my own practice.
I have been through the trenches of parenting and know how hard this can be. I recognize and celebrate each child and family for their unique qualities and strengths. I want to continue supporting families by providing comprehensive, quality diagnostic evaluations and individualized treatment recommendations. I would love to get to know you and your family!
